Four-Tonnes rice donation gives hope to victims of inclement weather

The City of Cape Town was the grateful recipient of 4-tonnes of rice, generously donated by the Taipei Liaison Office

The Taipei Liaison Office in Cape Town, via a long-standing partnership, donated four tonnes of rice to the City of Cape Town.

Acting on behalf of the city, the Office of the Speaker accepted this generous contribution, marking it as another significant gesture under the leadership of Director-General Ms Lily Chen. This act not only exemplifies commendable generosity but also represents a meaningful step towards addressing a critical societal need – affordable sustenance.

Rice holds a pivotal role as a staple food in South Africa, providing economical and nutritious sustenance to numerous households. This substantial donation has the potential to feed approximately 10,000 people, directly enhancing food security for vulnerable families. 

Amidst ongoing economic disparities and recent natural disasters brought on by a harsh winter and inclement weather, the impact of this contribution is profound and will contribute to the work already under way to assist those affected by inclement weather. It also highlights the Taipei Liaison Office's commitment to collective action and social responsibility, showcasing Director-General Chen and her team's dedication to fostering positive societal change.
